Prevalence of Rosacea in Transgender and Gender Diverse Populations: A Retrospective Cohort Study, Jessika Sanz, BS
Hormone modulating treatments, like oral contraceptive pills, estrogen replacement therapy, and spironolactone, have been shown to improve symptoms of rosacea. Researchers questioned the effect of gender-affirming hormone therapy on the incidence of in transgender and gender diverse patients. Jessika Sanz, BS, of the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine, and colleagues explored the incidence of rosacea in transgender patients compared to cis-gender patients. Their findings suggest that feminizing gender-affirming hormone therapy may be associated with a reduced incidence of rosacea, while masculinizing gender-affirming hormone therapy did not seem to effect incidence of rosacea. Discussion focuses on findings and implications for care and future research.
