A Pilot Program to Standardize Acne Data Collection through a Multicenter Electronic Health Platform

Abstract
The potential for effective collaborative research in acne may be increased with improved utilization of technology. The aim of this project is to develop standardized data collection methods utilizing the EPIC electronic health record (EHR) system to allow collaborative clinical research on acne vulgaris. The goals are to develop “best practices” for acne clinical data collection based on identifying efficiencies in use within other systems and to identify potential research opportunities where the EMR can assist in data collection and data mining. Given the multitude of clinical trials involving acne patients, we surmise that a standardized acne template will improve acne clinical research and facilitate the care of acne patients universally.
