A Retrospective Analysis of the Duration of Oral Antibiotic Therapy for the Treatment of Acne Among Adolescents: Investigating Practice Gaps and a Potential Cost-Savings

Specific Aims

  1. Determine the utilization of long term oral antibiotic therapy for the treatment of acne among adolescents.
    1. Compare actual duration of oral antibiotic use to recommendations from US and international guidelines.
    2. Compare the duration of oral antibiotic therapy for those with and without concomitant topical retinoid use.
  2. Determine the costs for long term oral antibiotic treatment of acne
    1. Establish the current costs of long term oral antibiotics for the treatment of acne.
    2. Contrast the observed costs to the expected costs based on the antibiotic use suggested in US and international guidelines.
